War of the roses Lindholme leg

11 April 2016 Fishing News & Match Results

The first leg of the now annual ‘War of the Roses’ match to raise funds for the England Veterans Squad took place last week and it was the white rose of Yorkshire which took the spoils.

The home side recorded a total of 1,432-1-0 to the 1,280-6-0 of their rivals from across the Pennines, having adapted best in the extremely windy conditions. Organised by team captains Dick Clegg (Yorkshire) and Danny Sixsmith (Lancashire), the event secured £700 for the Veterans 2016 world championship campaign.

On the individual front Yorkshire had it all their way too, filling the top four places in the match which was fished across Bonsai, Willows and Laurels lakes. Mark Stainsby took the top weight on the day with 87-2-0 from peg 7 on Willows as he found a string of decent F1s on the short pole with pellet baits. Nearby on peg 2 Luke Sears recorded 80-13-0 for second fishing similar tactics short and down the edge, with Les Marshall third on 71-3-0 from peg 37 Bonsai. The top Lancashire performer was Micky Rogerson with a fifth-placed 65-0-0 on Bonsai 30.

Dick Clegg would like to thank all those who turned up to support the event. The return leg will see both sides line up at Partridge Lakes in Warrington on Wednesday May 4 and there are still a few places left. Call him on 07534 267512.
